What is QTS - Qualified Teacher Status?
Attaining QTS is mandatory for overseas trained teachers
...[more]
Obtaining QTS is mandatory for all overseas trained teachers and must be obtained within 4 years from the time you start teaching in the UK. We recommend you do look into this as many schools pay overseas trained teachers without QTS at a lower rate until they do obtain it.
From 1st Sept 2008, overseas trained teachers who have not obtained QTS within 4 years will not be allowed to continue teaching beyond 4 years even if they are undertaking employment based training leading to QTS. (The consultation had proposed to introduce this change from 1st September 2007 but it has been deferred to the 1st September 2008)
See www.teachernet.gov.uk/teachinginengland/detail or http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/overseastrainedteachers/ for more information.
NB: having a British QTS can enhance your CV back in your home country.

Where do I want to teach?
Most teachers when they think of teaching
...[more]
Most teachers when they think of teaching in the UK think of London or the surrounding areas, but you can also gain work in regional Britain. Our recommendation to you is that you try to remain as flexible as possible to ensure that you have every opportunity of finding the right school for you.
Living expenses in London are quite high however schools do have additional funding allocated in annual pay rates to assist with these costs.
